Tensions have risen at the Federal University, Wukari, Taraba State, following the tragic death of a 20-year-old 200 hundred level student, allegedly by unidentified cult members.
The incident took place on Thursday night, causing distress not only within the school campus but also in the surrounding communities.
The victim, Mark Shagari, was enrolled in the Department of Biological Science at the university prior to the unfortunate incident.
Residing outside the campus premises, Mark was assaulted and stabbed by suspected cultists in Wukari town.
A staff member of the institution, speaking on condition of anonymity, expressed deep shock upon hearing the distressing news of the young student’s murder.
While unable to provide a detailed account of the incident, the university worker said “We were informed that his lifeless body was found near his place of residence in the town after being stabbed to death in Wukari.”
Fellow students, acknowledging the loss, implored the school authorities to enhance security measures on the campus.
They also appealed to the state government to collaborate with the school administration in identifying and apprehending the culprits responsible for this heinous act.
Ashu Agya, the spokesperson for the institution, confirmed the student’s demise and assured that the security forces had initiated an investigation into the appalling murder.
In a statement, the institution’s spokesperson declared, “We are determined to leave no stone unturned in uncovering the circumstances surrounding the student’s assassination.”
