UDUS matriculates 5962, students express delight

Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto has on Wednesday, July 19th, 2023 matriculated the newly admitted students for 2022/2023 academic session.

Vice Chancellor’s Speech

While addressing the students, Prof. Lawal Bilbis, the Vice Chancellor of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto strictly warned against all forms of social vices from the students.

“Students are enjoined to stay away from extremism, immoral acts, indiscipline, violence and intolerance especially in ethnic, political and religious matters, as well as spread of fake, threat and unverified news especially in the social media. These are some of the major vices that are currently posing threats to our country,” Vice Chancellor warned.

“Today is not for matriculating students alone. I want to seize this opportunity to also reiterate to all students the need to continue to be of good behaviour and work hard towards completing their studies on schedule. On our part, I would like to assure you that we will continue to use all resources (both human and material) at our disposal in ensuring that your stay in the University is worthwhile.”

While speaking about the number of the matriculants, he said, “Currently (2023), the University has a total of 17 Faculties, a College of Health Sciences (CHS), a Postgraduate School, School of Medical Laboratory Sciences, six Research Centres, Central Research Laboratory and quite a number of other academic and non-academic support units. It is therefore a pride of the founders of this University and every citizen of this country to see the height we have attained thus far.

“According to the breakdown of the total number, Faculty of Agriculture had 549, Faculty of Arts 316, Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies 249, Faculty of Education and Extension Services (21 programmes) 1015: Education Science 475 and Education Arts/Humanities 540.

Faculty of Law with 122, Faculty of Chemical and Life Sciences (7 programmes) had 1421, Faculty of Physical and Computing Sciences (5 programmes) 523, Faculty of Management Sciences 271, Faculty of Social Sciences 460, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine 113 College of Health Sciences (8 programmes) 625: MBBS with 107, Radiography 104, Nursing Sciences 74, Medical Laboratory Sciences 142, Dental Sciences 14, Nutrition & Dietetics 56, Optometry 49, Physiotherapy 79, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences 197, Faculty of Engineering & Environmental Design 101.”

Student reacts

While speaking with Pen Press Udus, Ahmed Hayatullahi, a 100-level student of Accounting said, ” I am more than happy. I can’t even express how I am feeling right now because seeing all these professors is a kind of motivation for me. Today, my hope is renewed”.

He further expressed that, “Today’s programme went well. This testify to nothing than why Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto is called the most peaceful University in Nigeria”
