The University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, has joined forces with the South African Consulate in Lagos to organise a three-minute thesis competition in celebration of Nelson Mandela Week.

In a statement released on Friday, Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, the spokesperson for UNILAG, revealed that the competition was inspired by the University of Queensland (UQ) in Australia.

“Its purpose is to equip PhD students worldwide with the ability to effectively present their research in just three minutes, using language that can be understood by a non-specialist audience,” she said.

Alaga-Ibraheem further stated that UNILAG, in collaboration with the South African Consulate Lagos, has embraced this concept to highlight the impact of research and development, particularly within the African continent.

According to her, the competition, which is the inaugural edition at UNILAG, is open to all interested PhD students worldwide, who are invited to submit their applications for consideration. However, priority will be given to topics that offer solutions to specific challenges in Africa.
