The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has unveiled a new system that allows graduates to receive their unclaimed certificates via courier services, a move aimed at enhancing convenience and aligning with international best practices. This was announced by the institution Registrar, Mr Mansur Alfanla, on Monday.
In a departure from its previous policy prohibiting third-party collection of certificates, the university now offers courier delivery as an alternative to in-person collection.
Alfanla explained that the initiative is designed to make certificate collection easier, particularly for alumni residing abroad or far from the university.
“The new system allows graduates to opt for courier delivery as an alternative to in-person collection. This marks a significant departure from the university’s previous policy, which prohibited third-party collection of certificates,” Alfanla stated.
Graduates opting for courier delivery must fulfill specific requirements, including providing their original statement of result, a court affidavit, an indemnity form, and a valid international passport for those abroad.
“Graduates opting for the courier service must submit the following: original statement of result, court affidavit, indemnity form, and a valid international passport (for those residing abroad),” Alfanla reiterated.
For those who prefer in-person collection, certificates will remain available at the university’s premises between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
“This development is particularly beneficial for graduates residing outside the country, as it eliminates the need for them to travel to Ilorin,” he added.
This announcement follows an earlier memo reported by Edugist on December 19, 2024, which set a collection deadline of January 17, 2025. The memo warned that graduates failing to meet the deadline would incur a fine of N3,000 per week.
The new courier option provides graduates with a practical solution to avoid penalties and simplifies the process for those unable to visit the campus in person.
